I Am Canadian Too
Stereotypes of homogenous Caucasians dominating Canadian streets, jobs and culture are being broken daily. Toronto boasts being the most multicultural city in the world. Montreal and Vancouver have embraced various ethnicities for years. It is what Canada is mostly respected for, embracing and understanding that where we come from, our heritage and ancestry, is honourable and worth celebrating and remembering. Diversity in Canada allows us all to maintain our culture, which is ironically, Canadian culture.
YOUR IDEAS!
As Canada’s demographic increasingly becomes less and less majority Caucasian, we are asking you – young Canadians of all ethnic backgrounds, to explore what being Canadian means to you, your community, your way of Canadian life.
So tell us, what does what does being Canadian mean to you? Since there is no single way Canadians act or look, how do you answer when someone says where are you from?
How do you feel when you say, “I Am Canadian”? Do you feel like your ethnic background plays a role in how you define yourself? For example are you Canadian or are you ‘X’-hyphenated-Canadian (i.e. Chinese-Canadian).
