411 TV Theater Program: Girls

“Across the world, girls face the double discrimination of their gender and age, leaving them at the bottom of the social ladder. They are denied access to basic health services, education, and face extremely high levels of violence, abuse, and harassment.” – Because I Am A Girl Report, Plan International

Project Description:

Internationally girls are making their voices heard, empowering themselves and inspiring others one community at a time. 411 is sharing the stories of girls by highlighting both their struggles and successes in impacting change as local heroes. This project is committed to portraying positive imagines of girls, to providing engaging stories and to offering real life testimonies from Haiti, Sudan and Canada that provoke discussion among young Canadians.

Your school can get involved by booking the 411 presentation, which incorporates video commentary with girls in countries around the world, theater, music performance and audience participation.

Key Themes: gender equity, access to education, self-esteem, early marriage, child labor, violence against girls
