Length: 90-minute mixed media presentation with interactive/Q&A session Space Requirements: Large open area or stage, access to electrical outlets Additional Details: This program includes curriculum supplements for post-performance in class use and online follow up opportunities. Goal: The goal of the project is to strengthen young Canadian’s awareness of the Historical contributions of Black Canadians to Canadian society and the global community. The presentation will also explore immigration from a historical and contemporary perspective tracing the roots of Canada’s diverse “Black” population. Playing a historically significant role in the development of the nation since its inception. • Understanding of the concepts of immigration and integration, and how they relate to historic and contemporary black society • Immigrant communities in Canada faced considerable challenges, despite these challenges members of immigrant communities have helped define Canada as a nation. • Young people have the ability and power to affect change in their communities. Project Objectives: • Young Canadians gain a better understanding of the contributions of Black Canadians to the development Canada • Young Canadians develop knowledge of the different waves of Black immigration to Canada • Introduce students to present day, successful and empowered young role models |
