Effect change!
Clubs provide tangible means for you and your friends to make measurable differences in the world around us by raising funds to support the work of charities, share information and resource and raise awareness. Starting a club in your school can help other students realize the tremendous influence they can have over other youth in Canada and around the world!
Educate Yourself (Get the 411!)
Take time to read about issues, affecting youth locally and worldwide, and about the organizations working to effect change. Be sure to check our articles section (link) for current information.
Work Together (Take initiative!)
Decide with your group the cause or area of focus your group would like to work on improving. Remember that is important to support projects that are "sustainable" so that the same problems don't keep coming back in the future. Your group may want to start a club associated with a particular charity or simply focus on a certain issue or a geographical region.
- Research more about the issues affecting youth and the simple solutions to many of the most painful problems felt by your peers.
- Research about the region you may be interested in focusing on and issues affecting youth in that area
- Research where charities receives their funding form and how the money people donate goes where it is suppose to be spend and ensure that it is not all spent on administration.
Set Goals & Plan Your Activities
- What results are you hoping to achieve with your club. What do you hope to learn?
- Want impact do you want to have on your school and local community?
- Are there specific issues you want to address?
- What will your activities be?
- If you are planning to do fundraising how much money do you want to raise in the first year? Who do you want to donate the money to?
Get Other Students Involved
The results of your work may take time to show. It is best to begin with small goals and tasks, then expand as your club grows. It takes confidence to know your work that is being done by your club is not in vain; it will make a difference in the lives of youth everywhere.
